Alarm set for 7am, for an early start & quick breakfast before Quique & Mark drove us to the bus station to catch the 9.30am Premier class bus, for the 5 hour journey to Guadalajara. Very comfortable bus, lots of leg room, fully reclining seats, & a freed drink & sandwich for lunch! D&L watched 3 films, the kids played, & managed to behave themselves until the final 45 minutes of the journey! On arrival at the bus station, bought 2 nights at a discounted rate (M$595) at the Hotel Aranzazu Eco, in the centre of town, from a helpful tourist info chap. Got a taxi (M$145) into town, with a non communicative driver, who seemed more intent on speed than safety!
The hotel was a little more upmarket than our usual type, with unsmiling reception staff & chatty bell-boys! 2 dbl beds, own bathroom, huge window in the room & at the end of the corridor (L: "There's a hole in the wall over there - don't go near it, kids!"). Put our bags into the room, & went out for a wander - past the Templo de San Fransisco, with market stalls & horse drawn carriages next to it, up the main street (passing a couple of musical instrument shops!) to the central square. Bought a couple of custard filled doughnuts to keep us going, then wandered east, to another plaza where there was a huge marquee, & massive queues of people. We walked around, & saw a sign advertising animatronic dinosaurs, which got J very excited! We then walked a couple of blocks south, & found a reasonably priced restaurant, where we ate tacos & gorditas. After tea, we headed back to the hotel, via one of the music shops, for D to have a 10 minute drool over the guitars! Once back in our room, the kids did their schoolwork, & then went to bed. D&L watched TV for a while, then turned in, as well.
