Southwestern Excursion
Amazing! We spent the day riding through the mountains first to Silverton on a bus then back to Durango on a train. The entire trip lasted 7 hours. We boarded a bus in Durango and rode 1 1/2 hrs through the San Juan Mountains to the mining town of Silverton, Co. We had 2 hrs to walk around in Silverton. Our 1st stop was lunch in the Handlebar Saloon. Then we walked around looking at the shops and museums. The area was beautiful. The city only had one paved road. The bus driver said that at the height of the city's mining industry there were 6,000 miners in the town. We waited in the coffee shop playing go fish until it was time to board the train. Our seats on the train were in an enclosed car and we were free to walk between cars. Lin spent most of the time in the open air car behind ours. The ride back through the San Juan Mountains took 3 1/2 hrs. The scenery was stunning. It was very relaxing. We took around 200 photos this time. Tonight we are driving to Pueblo, Co and tomorrow we are going white water rafting on Arkansas River.
