We grabbed our included breakfast at the hotel and then went back to our room. The crowded four man room began to get to Mr Ben and the words came out of his mouth, "I feel like I'm in a refugee camp". He then had a sudden urge to shave his head, so that he did. Tight fro curls plummeted to the ground and slowly Ben became a bald man. I tried my best to neaten it up, but it was not good enough for bens level of perfection. Turns out I made one part extra baby smooth and the rest not so much. He spent longer than Isaac going down the road and getting his hair cut at the barbers.
After a lot of kerfuffle we headed for a gander out in Hanoi. Started with finding a place to eat lunch and found a nice little cafe called Geko something. The service was great and the music was great too, lots of Bob Marley and Adele :). Food was also nice. Did find a bug in my soup but just took that as extra protein ;). Under all the glass frames on the table tops were messages from customers from all around the world. Ben drew a picture of Sam and Sam put his Sam Spencer stamp on it and quoted it, they popped in under one of the glass tops.
Some smiley Vietnamese lady, who had been waiting outside for us the whole time we were eating, broke my fan and tried to sell me another one, I think she did it on purpose, dirty con woman, I did not take her custom. After that we headed for a walk by the lake. My confidence in crossing the roads began to grow, the drivers seem crazy but they can sense fear and so the only thing you can do it brace yourself keep calm and slowly walk across confidently. We made our way over to a bridge which turned out to be the entrance to a temple. We bought a ticket and went on in. The story is something about a giant 2.10m turtle finding a lost sword in the lake or something??
After that we headed for the French District (place where France colonised). Lots of shops and things to look at and Ben gave us a small but beautiful piano recital in one of the music shops. Then we headed back toward the lake to find an ice cream parlour. After a tasty bite to eat, we went to the local shops and I saw the tiniest Chihuahua puppy, shaking its' legs off. Lots and lots of stray dogs in Vietnam, it's no wonder they eat dog here!
Dinner was a bit of a mix up with orders and various spice levels but you win some you lose some.
After dinner we went to a water puppet show and me and Jessie particularly enjoyed it, smiling and bobbing our heads along. The puppet show was all performed on the surface of water and was played along with live Vietnamese instrumental music and singing. Various different stories based on Vietnamese cultural things, like rice paddy farming and fishing etc. I found it pretty funny, cute and very entertaining!
