We got up at 6am and made it onto Khao San Road for 7am for our coach to pick us up for the temples tour. We went to five different temples in the ancient town of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The tour guide spoke Basic English and at times was hard to understand, but I learned a few main facts. I found out that many of the temples in Thailand where built as a place where the Buddhists and Hindus could join and pray together, as the religions are fairly closely related. Other facts I learnt include:
- Buddhists believe that meditation cures all problems
- "Buddha long ear, Buddha long life" - Buddhas have long ears to represent long life!
- We also learned some hand gestures, which I managed to remember and note down
We had some nice free lunch and browsed around each temple. We saw some really cute puppies and a little girl let me take photos. We got home by three and prepared for our night bus journey. Leaving at 8.30pm, we arrived in Chiang Mai at 5.30am. The ride was long, but we had blankets, reclining seats and snacks to keep us going. For some reason they played a war movie ridiculously loud from 9pm till about midnight, explosions kept jumping me out of sleep but after the movie was over it was all silence.
