Today we went back to the embassy to collect our visas. No crazy tuktuk drivers this time as we went for a taxi - costing us the adventure, but saving us monies and possibly our lives. After that we headed to a tourism place a few hundred blocks down the road. I couldn't resist more street food and thought I stumbled onto grilled snake, for 10B, so of course I bought it. Turned out it wasn't snake, and probably more likely to be intestine of a small rodent, tasted yummy and I liked trying the unknown! Moment after we realised we were walking past some hutches full of guniea pigs and we then had our suspicions of what the mysterious meat was. We walked past sewers, dirty rivers and underpasses and shanty houses, not long before reaching some fancy smanshy skyscrapers. We reached the tourism place and found out how to get train tickets. We then went off to the train station to sort our train tickets for Chiang Mai. We managed to get a 4 day package that included transportation (a VIP 11 hour night bus), hotel accommodation, elephant trekking, waterfall trip, trek to a mountain village, bamboo rafting and lunch and dinner included for about 60 squid.
On the way home we met another crazy driver, but this time it was a taxi driver. Six of us climbed into one taxi and scooted off home. We went for dinner at a yummy seafood street cafe in china town; I chose the seaweed soup, which was divine. We also shared some massive prawns! Jessie was telling Ben to eat the brains because it is the best bit and Sam became quickly freaked out by all the prawns brain sucking that had been going on.
Then we headed back to the hotel. Jessie told us she had discovered that the hotel we were staying at that behind each painting there were secret orange light bulbs that can be seen outside, for what we could only assume to be for prostitutes or the "clients" of prostitutes. We all found this hilarious. Then we headed for an early night as we had booked a temple trip for the next day in the early hours of the morn.
