for those who were wondering AKWAABA means welcome, which is how I now feel.
The first week was tough but now feeling very much more at home and have
settled into the kakkra-kakkra (slowly slowly) pace of life where "how are
you" is no longer a question but a greeting, it is normal to be hugged and
'high-5'd' by children once they've chased you down the street shouting
"obruni" (white person!)
Had an incredible weekend camping out in the rain forest and walking on a
rope bridge 250m up in the canopy! absolutely amazing, if a little too
wobbly to be confident! Spent a few scorching days on the beach which i'm
paying a slightly lobster coloured price for now, but the rain has come
today. and boy does it rain!! Monsoon doesn't come close!!
Work has been very.... ummm... interesting, but i'm even getting used to
that! those who know me and my eating habits would be very proud of the
food i've been eating since i've been here, although it's still never
enough because its so stinking hot!!
Loving it all now, very much happier. It's great to get texts from you all -
thanks! Going to a place called Busua this weekend where you have to get a
canoe to a deserted beach where 10 of us have rented two of the very very
few bungalows on the island to party my 20th away!
Had trouble sending the last email so will leave this here, and hope it
reaches you.
Lots of Love, Soph x
