I have finally managed to make it to Luderitz! The past couple of days have been so stressful and exhausting. On Thursday afternoon I met up with all my friends from Training and, of course, my volunteering partner Suzy. We then all had to struggle through security, getting buzzed by anything the scanner could possibly see. However the stress kept on piling as the plane that was taking me to Johanessburg had a broken door which meant that we had to sit on the plane for an extra hour and a half. NIGHTMARE!! However once we managed to get to Namibia, once the door had been changed and replace, Disaster struck. Our big bags with all of our clothes in hadn't been changed onto our connecting flight!! We all had to go back to our hotel slightly heart-broken about our vanishing bags.
Luckily the next day our bags did turn up! Lucky as I would have had absolutely no clothes to have worn if not and going around a hot country slowly getting smellier and smellier. We were all so delighted that our bags had turned up that we actually had a stunned silence - which for the Namibian crew is quite an achievement!
That evening we all got taken out to a restaurant called Joe's which I would reccomend to everyone. It does the most beautiful succulent meat. Whilst there I have the Bushman Sosaltie. This was an incredible dish as it was Zebra, Crocodile, Oryx, Ostrich, and Springbock. All of which were surprisingly tasty.
On the Sunday Suzy and I started out next journey down to Luderitz. An 8 hour drive in a hot country did not sound pleasant and it was the part of the journey I was most worrying about. Luckily the car we went in had air conditioning so all my worrying was for nothing. I also had some classic entertainment of a dog clambering all over Suzy's lap throughout the journey to help the hours go faster.
As we were travelling through the last hour of our drive we started to see some of the trees moving. I thought this was very strange but as it turned out I have mistaken an Oryx for one of the twigs. This part of the journey showed us Wild Horses, Springbock, and many more Oryx which are incredibly beautiful and absolutely amazing creatures. I stared out the window unable to take my eyes of the barren landscape.
Soon, after watching all that incredible landscape skim past we were in Luderitz. I have been waiting for so long to see this town for myself and not very Google Maps and it looked so different. I loved the town it was full of colourful houses and friendly people. People who already know Suzy and me as The Buchter Girls. This was a very weird feeling.
Even though I have only been here for a day so far I am already so excited for my year ahead. The town looks incredible and I cannot wait to begin meeting all the children that I will be teaching and talking to all the incredible people who are full of wisdom for our newspaper articles.
