Arrived at Cambodia Backpacker Guesthouse in the early hours of the morning so got into our dorm beds not being able to see who we were sharing a room with, and were not pleasantly surprised in the morning when waking up between old men who were most probably sex tourists. Again, fantastic. We were our of there as soon as it was light and moved to Garden Village which had been recommended to us. Nice roof terace for a sunbathe but no air con so very sticky :( I got ill!
Went to Angkor Wat for sunrise which was pretty stunning but I think it would have been just as nice in the day or sunset, as we were just tired for the rest of the day! We went to the temple with the massive trees growing through it where Tomb Raider was filmed which I'd really been looking forward to. It was so so packed with tourists but still absolutely amazing!
I felt so ill that we moved to Temple Villa to have air con and some luxury. It was BRILLIANT. The room was clean and had a TV, and the pool was gorgeous. We thought it was too good to be true until we checked out and they tried to charge us for everything including the air we breathed. 'You English are rich, you can afford to pay'.
Siem Reap is famously good for a night out and perhaps in our excitement and hurry to soak up the fun Kelly's flip flop broke meaning instead of cocktails we spent a while in search of somewhere open selling sandals! After some hilarious footwear options, we headed for some cocktails and on to 'Angkor What?' Bar/Club which was very cool with it's UV paint and lighting. Tip: Don't wear white. We bumped into some old familiar faces, as we have begun to expect with travelling this popular tourist route!
We went to the floating village which was insane- and the drive there was as beautiful as the village itself. A man was taking photos of us as we walked onto the boat with no explanation... as we finished the tour it turns out they want to try to sell you your face printed on a plate?! The tour was great and we got to steer the little boat around the 'roads' of the village. Witnessed a little boy bobbing along in a tub wiht an oar and of course, a mother holding a baby begging for food. Our 'last supper' together before me and Kelz headed to the boxing camp, we went and had Amok; I had fish, Kim had chicken and Kelz crocodile.
Beware: We had a young girl come up to us holding her 'baby sister' who needed milk. You feel like you can't say no so agree to buy some milk and then when you're in the shop the milk tub is $12! The girl will then go back to the shop and sell it back to them to make money. Very clever and catches alot of people out... including us first time round!
