We set off for Santa Fe at 7.30am, stopping off in Roswell along the way. Roswell had a so called extraterrestrial landing in 1947 and so has become famous every since. The ranch where the landing happened has been closed since the 60s but it was fun to see the town where it happened even though I don't believe any of it!
We arrived in Santa Fe at around 2pm where we had the afternoon to explore. We saw the cathedral, the oldest church in the U.S. and a chapel where a staircase was made with no nails. Santa Fe is a small town that reminds me of the Flintstones with the style of buildings. It mainly has a lot of shops and restaurants but it was nice to take this city more relaxed than some of the others we have done. Our group leader told us that Santa Fe has been a capital of 3 different places and is the oldest US city so my inner history geek loved this. We stopped off at a cafe to have a strawberry and Nutella crepe before meeting the rest of the group to head to our camp site for the night.
Our next stop in the morning is Mesa Verde National Park!
