We ave arrived back to the Lotus Guesthouse, after 6 days at the childrens camps. I know ive not done a blog for the time that I was there, but I will go back on days and do some entries, taking extracts from my written diary. There was no singnal at the camp and no electricity. -if i cant be bothered to do that in the long run then ill add bits to more recent blogs.
Im not in the best of moods at the moment. After a rocky start at the bigger childrens camp, we all ended up bonding with some of the children that were there. And the bus today arrived hours earlier than any of us had anticipated. I was quite sad to leave to tell you the truth. Im quite glad that we left on a high, but i could have done with a day or two more to be honest. Except when it came to the sleeping arrangments.
We slept in Gers, 7 of us in one. it was a squash. But we were all on the floor with paperthin matresses, grasshoppers falling from the ceiling and spiders, beetles and flies keeping us company on the bottom. Oh, and there were midges and mosquitos too. Ive got mosquito bites on my calfs, thighs, tummy, back, under my arms etc. etc.
Tomorrow we are off to the Gobi desert for the week, then im back in UB for one night and one wash- then i fly home.
In some ways it feels like ive been away for months, and in other ways it feels like i just got here.
It feels like theres a kind of void. The journey back to UB from the camp was short but bumpy. There was lots of dust, and at one point i had to shut the window because it was going everywhere- in my hair, my eyes, my mouth.. my once white sponge is now slightly grey after not being able to shower for a week! As soon as we got to the city the beeping started! Driving and drivers are dangerous enough in UB as it is, but the driver of our bus was one the phone at one point!! We nearly got pulled over by police, but thankfully we didnt.
We're going to try and keep in touch with some of the children from the camp. They go back to school soon. They dont have their own private email addresses- we have to go through teachers which is annyoing, hopefully as they get older this will change. It would be nice to be able to contact them directly.
The bus arrived at 10am this morning when we were expecting it at about 3.30pm. We said our goodbyes for a good 50minutes and there was hugging and smiles and writing down names in notebooks.
We also made friends with three other travellers. One girl doing her voluntary work, and two guys travelling, I think that theyre both off to China soon.
The summer camp had its highs and lows. The children are all very demanding and a lot of them have severe learning difficulties and or anger issues. There was only a few who had no obvious issues.
Most of the lows came at the beginning, because nobody had told us that the children we'd be working with would be like this. One of the little girls was very disturbed and had bad moodswings and went into a tantrum like state 3 or 4 times a day were she would hit herself and some of the gers. She was having one of these while we were leaving so we couldnt say goodbye.
we were hoping to run one last workshop this morning, but there wasnt time!
This is all ill write for now, and maybe when im in a better mood later ill add to this post and create some others for the other days.
