So this is my first blog entry for Mongolia!
Me julia and Olivia arrived here yesterday- 17th of august. we were so jetlagged. a near miss with an 8 year old street child was not what our systems were craving after such a long journey. but that aside so far its been very pleasant here. going to be here for a few more days yet. which access to internet.
Then off to the childrens camp to do some work with the Lotus Charity with some street children and to stay in a gher(typo??).
Then one night back in UlaanBaatar (capital city) then off for a weeks adventure to the Gobi desert. Then back to the UK.
Today we finally met up with Dad Cath Kaia and Mir. it feels like so long since i've seen them! The truck looks great. Ill have to see if i can steal some photos and upload them onto my blog as well! ive been taking photos with disposable cameras and my old brick phone. but i cant upload them onto this.
Also when we arrived in UB we our lift from the airport detoured through a shanti town, and for a split second we thought we were staying there! our hearts dropped because we knew it wouldnt be safe for 3 western females to wander around alone. There goes our freedom!! with poverty being rife and rabid dogs around, it wasnt the most appealing prospect after a whole days worth of travelling and losing 7 hours.
Me Julia and Olivia visited the state university today.- took ages to find. The condition of the universities wernt amazing. they dont much access to books etc. and they have classrooms-all really old fashioned with wooden desks and chalkboards.
The start difference in affluence is striking here. down one road you see vast poverty and the filthy rich carrying designer handbags and high stiletto heels. Julias referred to them as 'glamour pusses' (hehe). also the buildings. one side of the road there are new sky scrapers resembling that of london city. then the other side of the road there are traditional buildings and crumbling ones. Theres a tram service, picturesque mountains in the background and then billboards. Its a very strange place. Its only been a day, so lets see what the rest of the time brings us!
So this is decent for a first blog entry. Off to the black market tomorrow-i'm sure this will bring a lot of adventures and stories.
until next time,
Byyeeee

Roz Gasper Sounds a real culture shock as India and many third world countries are. In are home countries we also become immune to seeing poverty that we regard as 'normal'. Hope u enjoy and and continue insights on your other experiences -black market, desert etc. Will read you again next week. xxx
