1. The weather is always hot and sunny, and if it rains it only lasts for about an hour and then its sunny again!
2. The beautiful beaches and the surfing.
3. The fact that the people in Bahia spend all their time going to the beach, going for a surf, doing capoeira, having some beers, playing beach tennis, maybe working for a few hours, then going out and drinking again and going to bed!
4. The hot Brazilian guys!
So as you've probably guessed I really liked Bahia, and the two places we went to after Salvador, Itacare and Morro de Sao Paulo. Itacare was great, a cute little beach town and we were staying in a really nice hostel, Ben's place. The guys that worked there Stanner, Kirsty and Ian took us out the first night we arrived to a party at another hostel where I got slightly drunk from caipirinhas, and apparently was talking Portuguese to all of the locals! (One of them even said to me "hey, you can speak Portuguese?!" and I was like "errrmm no.....")
The nice thing about the town though was that even though we stayed only 3 days, we were walking along the main street one day and there were people waving at me out of shops and giving me thumbs up and shouting "Oi Sophie, tudo bem?" The bad thing was that I had no idea of the names of any of these people or what I had talked to them about!
We also did a surf lesson in Itacare which was a lot of fun. I actually discovered I can still surf, and wasn't totally s*** at it! It was Ben's first time of surfing and even he managed to stand up once before he gave up, being apparently the only person in the world who managed to get seasick from surfing and throw up in the sea!
Morro de Sao Paulo also had beautiful beaches and we met some nice English and Dutch girls in our hostel who we hung around with at the beach for a couple of days, and went to a big beach party one night. We also went to watch the sunset from the old Portuguese fortaleza which was impressive even though there were clouds in the way!
Then we all managed to negotiate with some dodgy Brazilian guy to get back to Salvador on a boat, then his private minibus, then another boat, for only 10 real more but about two hours less than doing it ourselves, so we arrived back in Salvador
