Hi everyone. just thought i would update you, as things have taken a downward turn for us out here! we had a fantastic couple of days in Toronto and Niagara, getting pissed was definately fun :) we went up the CN tower in Toronto at sunset which was fantastic. The Niagara falls was totally breathtaking, and we went right up close on a little boat - we got soaked but it was awesome! we stayed in a luxury hotel which had a view right over the falls that was awesome. We probably should have realised that me losing my credit card (aka my only form of money!) would be a bad omen, as it all started when we left Niagara.
FIrst of all, the bus was late coming in, and then at customs we had loads of problems with Sophies VIsa (the woman at the desk was a b**** and there was a load of pa-lava about it) and i had lost my little piece of paper so they were like umming and arring whether to let me out of Canada - but evenutally they passed us. so subsequently we got to our connecting station (Buffalo) 20 minutes late so we missed our connection to Boston. so we then had to wait 3 hours until 2.45am for the next bus. the journey was fine and we arrived at boston at lunchtime, only to find that Sophies backpack was not on the bus. NIGHTMARE! so we went to talk to somebody, and no one would help us, no one had a clue what they were doing. we eventually spoke to a superviser, who promptly told us it wasnt her problem, that it was our fault the bag did not have a grehound tag on it (although the only way to get these is to have them issued at the time of ticket purchase, and no body issued us one so we presumed we didnt need it) which was when i kindly (hahahaah!) told her it was indeed her problem and that she had better do something about it. we were then told, that we would have to call the stations and ask them (at which point we really got pissed off, as neither of our mobiles were working to call, only text, and they wouldnt let US use a phone to sort out THEIR problem). eventually this superviser told us that there was nothing she could do until a woman named Tes came on to her shift to do a baggage track on the computers. well thats all fine, except we had to wait for NINE HOURS before Tes started her shift. luckily, Tes turned out to be very apologetic and nice, and sent out the baggage claim online and emailed some stations. however, we were then informed that actually all of the stations close over night, therefore to get a reply we would have to wait until 7 am. lovely! so we had a fabulous sleepless night surrounded by tramps, bums and drunk people. so after eighteen hours of waiting, and fifty hours without sleep, we were finally told that infact there was nothing we can do at the moment, and that we should go and find a hotel. so off we go at 7.30am into boston with no map, no idea where we are, we are both exhausted, dirty and hungry, and seeminly no one would like to help us. Luckily sophies mum was on the other end of the phone texting us places where to find hotels, and at lunchtime (24 hours afer arriving in boston) we found a hotel and crashed out.
Sophie is understandably devastated, as it wasnt just clothes in the bag, there was gifts, personal things and her camera and memory card which had 2000 pictures of our travels. Greyhound arent doing anything to help, so at the moment, we are extremely lost and are not sure what our next step is going to be. All soph has is the clothes she is standing in, and the stuff i have lent her, so we are going to have to assess the situation before deciding whether to return back to Fort Myers or to continue on our travels. hopefully something will get fiigured out as we have hotel reservations in New York on the 1st september.
generally, we are both fine, just upset and tired, so no need to worry about us, its just such a horrible situation for both of us - but especially soph.
i will update you all again soon and hopefully by that time we would have landed back on our feet. not even sure whether boston is a nice city or not (the people definately are NOT) - we were both too exhausted to take in any of the scenery or culture. we did go up to Fenway Park (where the Red Sox play - and there was a game on today) to look for a hotel, and we even saw some of the players driving into the back entrance, but we were too shatterd to be excited about it.
anyway, hope everyone is ok, speak to you soon
love
Sara and Soph x
