Smithers
Hi eventually arrived safely in the jungle on friday night after a 5 and a half hour trip in the taxi from hell!! I was supposed to be met by a taxi at the airport but after 2 hours no one showed and the police told me to leave as it wasnt safe to stay in that area any longer so they got a taxi for me. The taxi driver didnt speak any english apart from 'you husband'? and he didn't know how to get there. It got dark and it was raining heavy and I started to think he might be a dodgy driver but we got there in the end. When i arrived it was pitch black and all of a sudden this big horse appeared from the jungle - it was like something out of 'lost' or something! It just wanders around all the time.
Got some impressive mosquito bites, its been wet here so they love a bit of smithers skin to snack on!!
I've been hanging out with the monkeys mainly the past few days. Mylo the monkey doesn't like me and skudded me on the head this morning. I think he was trying to pull my hairband off (they all love the hairband). The monkeys all do the woop sound too so I think they like me.
Some of the animals are disabled. Meow the tiger is heartbreaking to watch. He was rescued from a petrol station who were using him to get money from passing tourists. He has severly damaged nerves and has been going through physio to build them back up. he can walk but he walks like he is drunk.
It's mad starting work at six in the morning but i'm getting used to it - you can't really sleep in because the gibbon monkeys start calling at 5am!! There is also 5 dogs who all hang out outside my bedroon door. My room is like a shack with a metal roof then there is a big space before the walls begin so it feels like i living outside!! There are lots and lots and lots of beasties but I am just getting on with things even when Ifeel like running away and screaming really loudly. There are around 7 lizards on my roof each night - yuck.
Speak to you soon,
Over and out - Smithers in da jungle!!!
