So today was quite eventful, we didn't wake up until about 12 which is probably us trying to recover from jet lag. We then decided to go into Sai Kung for our brunch, which ended up being mcdonads as we didnt fancy anything foreign at the time, whilst eating (a different tasting big mac meal) we decided that we would visit Hong Kong Island and look around in the central areas.
We first had to look for the right bus which was a bit of a fiasco but we found it in the end. We then went down onto the MTR (Hong Kong version of the tube/metro) where we bought an octopus card which basically lets you use any transport there or buy thing from shops using it, we first used it to get the train down to Hong Kong central, which surprisingly only took a short while considering it is on its own island.
After looking around a bit along the streets we decided to go to visit the peak which is the tallest hill in Hong Kong so we used the tram to get up as it would only take 8 minutes compared to a 3 hour walk from the ground. We were a bit upset at the view though as it was kind of smoggy so it wasn't very clear on our cameras for taking pictures. It was still an amazing view however and it was incredible at how high some of the sky scrapers were.
We decided that we would take the escalator back down towards the ferry where we could travel across to the rest of Hong Kong but as we were walking down towards it, getting very tired, hot and sweaty on the way down we found out after not finding any escalator for travelling down that it only goes down before 10:20am so we were forced to take a very long tiring walk back down and ended up inside one of the tallest buildings in Hong Kong (I cant remember the name of it though it was the TLF or TLT or something) we then realised that the central platform for the MTR was inside that building so we set off to go back via that way.
We then found out that it was not a very good time to be using the MTR and there was thousands of people all rushing around as it was rush hour. I have never seen so many people in one place at once, it is even busier than London!
After a very packed MTR ride back to Sai Kung we decided that instead of eating out we would get some supplies from the local supermarket which consisted of minced meat, beer, baked beans, bread, chocolate and beer (its surprising how cheap everything is here except chocolate) and on our journey back to the bus we came across one of the funniest road names we have seen yet, Fuk Man Road so we had to take a picture and we are on the look out for a better one so i will keep you informed.
Our dinner was lush and it felt so nice to get a shower and cool down and relax as even walking is hard when it is this hot, but i am yet to get sun burnt which is a plus. We think that we will go to the water sports center tomorrow to see if we can have a go at kayaking, jet skiing etc.
Its 23:01 (Hong Kong time = 15:03 your time) soo...
Blog off!!!
