The desert road from Esfahan to Yazd.
Carrot jam for breakfast. You just cant eat the simpler things in life. Bread (like naan), carrot jam, a boiled egg and black tea. Sets up the day nicely.
Before we set off for the desert, we have a trip to the best mosque in Iran, the Imam mosque in Esfahan. A simply amazing place. The largest open court you have ever seen which used to be a polo pitch as that sport originated here. The area is now full of fountains and beautiful architecture.
Everyone wants their photo taken with us, continuing our famed status.
We meet Behruz, a Zorahstriain and joke teller that takes us to the rooftops. He is a restorer of buildings and explains a magnificent fresco on a building depicts the Turks fighting the Persians many moons ago. He also tells us about polo. We meet Hussan who is a tablecloth maker. He has been hand printing tablecloths for 65 years. Needless to say although they are insistent that this is just a history lesson we pass them $80 for tablecloths. Not quite a scam as we got cloth.
Time to leave Esfahan.
Head of into desert to Yazd for the beginning if our desert trip.
V hot 40 degrees.
See lots of military installations along the way, some with anti aircraft guns.
Are we close to something?
Highest point in trip 7400m.
