I am in Airlie beach at the mo, waiting for a Greyhound to take us to Townsville.
We arrived in Airlie beach a few days ago, which is the place from which we were to begin our Whitsundays adventure. The famous whitsunday islands consist of 74 tropical islands that float on a turquiose sea and are all within an area of only 100 miles. They are full of coral reefs and lush rainforests. Our fist day we sailed to to South Molle island on our catamaran (named the pride of Airlie) with our crew. Its quite good because we have ben (BA) and ben (BB) on our boat, Shaun (from Fraser island) with us, plus the 3 dutch lads (Shaun, Micheal and Ollie) so we already make up quite a big group. There were around 60 people on our boat and we all mingled and sunbathed on the front of the boat that first day until we got to our resort on South Molle. Our island is right at the heart of the whitsundays and our resort was lush. It had a huge pool, a variety of activities including golf, archery, a variety of walks, water sports, etc. We didn't actually do any of these activities tho as most of the day was spent on the boat. Me, Nat, steph and Anne even were given an upgrade as the room we were meant to be in wasn't prepared (it was falling apart!), so me and Nat got to share and double and Anne and Steph did, haha every 1 else was in smelly dorms!!
That night we had dinner and some drinks with the group and had an early night as we had a 6.30 start th next morning (groan!!). The next day we were on the boat all day. We visited a couple of islands and did some snorkling (where we had to wear sexy stinger suits as they have deadly box jelly fish here). I saw a few fish and one of the jelly fish (i kept a safe distance!!), but some of the boys saw some turtles so i was quite jealous about that!!
It was quite choppy at some poitnts on the boat, we were all lying at the front (toping up our tans) when a giant wave litterally soaked us all (and killed jess' phone), luckily somehow my mp3 suvived tho. And a fair few people got sea sick as well, but all in all it was a great day. That eve we had a bit of a party and a few of us ended up in the pool in the early hours of the morning...some joker stole my bra which i'd leant to Nat, Nats tops (which she'd lent to faye) and Fayes skirt!! we were not impressed!!
Our last day on the boat was hilarious!! It absolutly chucked it down all day (and it hasn't stopped raining since..the boys we met in Malaysia aren't happy as they started their trip the day we got back, and it is supposed to rain nonstop for the next 5 day!!!). Some of us doned our stinger suits and sat outside in the rain because it was so hot ond smelly below deck. it was funny but mainly it was cold and wet, we were all hudling together trying to keep warm. We had a snorkle in the rain but couldn't really see anything unless we duck dived, then we could see and few fish and the vibrant colours of the coral. We then headed back to Airlie beach.
Last night pretty much our whole sailing group went out for dinner and for our last night together. We had a bit of a karioke sesh where us 7 sang Celebrate by Kool and the gang (we sounded terrible but it was funny) and then headed to Mama Africa's for a boogie!
Had a very amusing night.. lots of stories...but i can't tell u all our secrets!!!
