So i have been chilling in Byron Bay for the last 5 days. I really really like it here!!
it has a really chilled out hippy/surfer vibe. In fact in the last 20 years or so it has become a perminant feature on the travellers trail, probably becaue it is such a cool little town. It has amazing surf (as i would know being an expert surfer now!), beautiful beachs with white sands and a crystal clear sea (making it easier to c the many jelly fish..Anne got stung on her bum! Ouch!), not to mention the many surf shops, hippy shops (they even have a smart shop...those of u who have been to Amsterdam will know what i mean), cafe's, bars, one club, loadsa good looking people...what more do u need?!
I'm a bit sad to leave actually (we r heading for Surfers Paradise today), but we must venture on...also i think if i didn't leave now i never would!!! infact if u look around u in between the many surfer dudes you can see a few hippy men and women in their hemp outfits and braided hair who probably came travelling here straight after uni 30 years ago and have jus neva managed to leave!! (not that i blame them!).
My first couple of days here i took surfing lessons in the morning (Faye joined me for the second one). I absolutley love it!!!! My first lesson was wicked, and i was able to stand up and stay up loadsa times! (i told you i am an expert now!!). I really think thats a new hobby for me, altho i really need to practise because any wave bigger than, well bigger than a gentle ripple really, i have some problems with!!
The day i had my second lesson the girls rented a car and went with the boys (the boys we met in Malaysia and have been hangin out with in Sydney are still with us) to Nimben. Which is like a little hippy place where cannabis is legal...i can't tell u much about it as i didn't go but apparently it was quite cool..and has very good cookies!!!
We've been out most nights, but theres not much to report there...jus the usual antics nothing exciting.
One eve we went to the boys campsite (they couldn't get accomodation so had to stay in a tent haha) and decided to have a bbq. We had all bought loadsa food (i mean LOADS!! We are still feeding on the left overs!) and some goon and decided to have a bit of a party. it all was a bit of a disaster from the start. The boys had set up the fire in day light and didn't think to set it up near a place with light so we had to try and cook in the dark (altho the guy in a campervan did lend us a light in the end..nice guy). Not only were we trying to cook food in the dark but we were also trying to cook 15 thousand (possible a slight over-exaggeration) sausages and burgers on some coal with a grate on top with some foil on that...it wasn't going well...by this point we were all starving and the sausages still looked like what Rosie termed "floppy penis's"!! Eventually we sent the boys on a mission to buy some disposable bbq's and the food was cooked jus in enough time to prevent any cannabilism on my part.
O yeah..and i saw a palm reader (well, i had to do something hippyish while i was here and as i missed out on the hash cookies...) but i'm not gonna tell u what she said...
Other than that theres not much gossip. Apparently there was a bit of a drunken argument in our room between a couple of the girls last night when we got in (no names neccissary) but i slept thru it- i think i have a skill) and it was all fine this morn any way!
catch ya again at Surfers Paradise!
