I just realised I forgot it was April Fools!! Oh well :) After an awful nights sleep, what with the rocking, generator noise and anchor coming up and down, we were up for breakfast at 7am as our first excursion was at 7:30am. During the night, we had travelled round San Cristobal Island to the north side. The dingy's were used to get us ashore (wet landing...and unfortunately wetter for some than others!) and we saw sea lions and marine iguana's right on the beach where we landed. From here, it was a tricky hike into the hillside for some beautiful views of the bay and also a chance to see some red footed boobies nesting. It was an absolutely marvellous hike through a number of different environments (and very glad to have done it early as it was getting hot when we were leaving!).
On arriving back at the beach, our tour guide said we had an option of swimming back to the boat. It didn't look too far and would be a welcome cool off from the hike, although unlike some of the others, I didn't have my bathers with me! I took the swim anyhow and was so very glad I did. The water was crystal clear and a comfortable heat (and definitely extra salty for a bit of added buoyancy!). Five of us made the swim back and we almost made it before the dingy's. Then the fun times commenced! We were jumping in off the second story of the boat. It was quite a jump and we managed to get a couple of others who maybe weren't so keen to come with us! So, all this achieved before 10am :)
The boat took off for 2 hours for our next stop which was a beautiful white, sandy beach, known for its sea lion population. On our way there, I managed to spot some dolphins so our guide set off the evacuation alarm to get everyone's attention...also scared away the dolphins. So when we got to the beach we went for a walk aaannndddd...there wasn't any sea lions, but we had a try out of snorkelling in shallow water before our big time snorkel this afternoon. There wasn't much to see other than each other and schools of tiny fish. There was one puffer fish hanging round in the end so we saw that ;) We were being eaten alive by horse flies though so everyone voted to go back to the boat earlier than we were supposed to.
We had a short time to wait before our quick 30 minute boat ride to Kicker Rock which was to be our last stop today. I managed to see another pod of dolphins and this time legged it to where most people were sitting and yelled dolphins to which everyone leapt to their feet...and this time most managed to see them as they came right over to the boat and swam underneath it. At Kicker Rock, we were possibly going to see various marine life in the channel between the two parts of the rock. We jumped off the dingy's at one end and snorkelled through to the other...so, the guys on the boat weren't joking about seeing sharks!! I only managed to see 2 (phew!) but also managed to swim with sea turtles, sea lions, eagle rays and loads of different fish...once I'd seen 2 big jellyfish though, I was back on the boat! It was incredible! Now back on board heading to our next stop which is about 8 hours away on another island (can't remember which one!).
I wasn't feeling too flash after dinner so had an early night whilst the rest watched the stars!
