Well, not feeling too flash turned into a need to take motion sickness medication and hope for the best...woke up after a long sleep feeling refreshed (and I didn't hear the anchor at all!!).
We were off the boat at 7:30am for a dingy ride around Buccaneer Rock. Enrique was in the other dingy to begin with so we were asking our dingy driver (Ornaldo, who spoke a little English) what everything was. He kept saying 'I don't know'. We saw a Blue Footed Boobie nesting on the rock, along with some gulls and pelicans. We then toured around the bay (shark!! I saw a shark fin in the bay...everyone was questioning my sanity!) and into the next bay. When the other dingy had gone from sight, Ornaldo took us into a cave where we could see straight to the bottom. The water was the most beautiful shade of blue-green. He then showed us Elephant Rock and we had to keep where we had been a secret... :)
We went back to the boat to collect our snorkelling gear (and have a snack...there was always juice and snacks waiting for us when we got back!) and guess what was hanging around the boat? A hammerhead shark! See, I wasn't seeing things when I saw the shark fin in the bay earlier! I still got in the dingy to go snorkelling, but wasn't sure I'd have the guts to get in the water. I did though, as the shelf around the rocks was quite shallow most of the way around. I was still very jumpy and when a sea lion dived into the water at me, I swallowed half of the ocean!
I went quite far around and then could hear a bit of a commotion...turned round and Enrique and Julio (the tour guide and dingy driver) were in the dingy calling us back whilst imitating shark fins with their hands. 'Not funny!', I yelled but still swam quickly and cautiously to the boat. Turns out they just wanted us all back onto the dingy's. Still not funny.
We then moved the boat round the point to another bay and had a wet landing on the beach. There were loads of sea turtle nests up near the tree line...not that you can really see much with them anyhow :) The sand on the beach was a really dark brown and when you stood in the water it was like standing in hot chocolate! Once we'd walked to one end of the beach, it started to rain...and rain...and rain. By the time we got back to where the dingy was to pick us up, we were all soaking wet and it was just a little bit cold.
Quick change and lunch on the boat whilst it was moved to yet another bay, with yet more snorkelling. This one was much rougher as it was more open to the ocean but the variety and number of fish we saw was second to none. Only one sea turtle this time :( We were told we could swim back to the boat if we wanted but we were all so cold none of us really wanted to. Turns out there was no ladder though this time so watching us all get back into the dingy's (particularly me) would've been a sight to behold! I was really starting to wish I'd swum back as it wasn't too far...
I was back first so had a really quick warm shower just to warm up and then turned out everyone else was jumping from the boat :( Once Emma went from the roof, that was it. Bathers back on and off we went! Once Emma and I had been off, a couple of the boys had to come as well...best video would have to be the girlie scream from one on the way down :) haha Kind of glad we'd just stopped when a sea lion popped up at the back of the boat.
After showers and a quick change, we headed to the beach near the bay we snorkelled at and walked around to a grotto. This was to see marine iguana's and fur seals. There were loads of iguanas but we only saw 3 fur seals. There were also sea lions around there too, as well as boobies and pelicans. It was incredibly humid walking overland yet the water was quite cool, as well as being on the beach - a bit of a weird feeling.
Before dinner, we all got together (crew included) for some farewell cocktails and thank you and good byes. It'll be really sad to leave. Dinner was lovely though and then we all sat in the lounge and watched some photos that Enrique had taken throughout the trip and laughed well into the evening before probably the most rushed packing job ever. Took about 10 minutes to squeeze everything in but it's extremely lopsided! Oh well, have 2 nights in Quito coming up so will do a repack then!
