The Day from Hell In Delhi - This was never meant to be a blog entry, hence the style it has been written in! It was written with much speed and anger from the lap top in the hotel lobby and sent to the mums and siblings! Have a read though as it's quite entertaining in a painful sort of way!
Simon left Delhi this morning at 5.00am and we had both been awake since 4am, me with a dodgy tummy and I think he was afraid of sleeping in. My anxiety about being left on my own started the day before whilst Man U and Man City were on TV, but I kept trying to tell myself that everything would be ok whilst all Si would say is 'just come home'. I can't pass up this oppertunity of travelling by being fearful, after all I have done this before on my own, its just that Simon looked after me so well.
As soon as he left this morning I was attached to the loo, every hour on the hour, until I took a s*** blocker to relieve me and a rehydration sachet to sort out my insides.
At 9am some t*** decided to wake me and tell me that my laundry was yet again going to be late (my brande new white kurta set had come back with pink stains so I made them re-wash it)- thanks for that.
At 9.30am room service told me that breakfast would only be served on the rooftop terrace, after which i made a tearful phone call to reception and a manky breakfast was delivered to me ten minutes later.
At 10am Reception phoned me to ask if I would make part payment on the room as I had gone over theie 14000 Rupees limit! I had already confirmed that I would be paying by card but today they changed their mind and told me their machine was broken.
Whilst waiting for my car (booked for 1pm) I tried to discuss the payment methods with reception where they told me that it was beneficial for them to get payment in cash - sorry but who is the customer? So I sat in reception and had a good old cry.
The driver turned up 10 minutes late and it then took half an hour to go 5 minutes up the street as the main road was closed.
First stop was the Jet Airways Office to change my return ticket to the UK. After many phone calls to their call centre and a prior visit to the office there was a dispute on the charge for changing the ticket. After half an hour this was sorted out by the most sullen group of customer service reps that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. After repeated attempts to get them to hurry up they still fannied around and it took 4 members of staff to complete the task.
Second stop was the tailors where I had dropped off a skirt to get made and a dress lined. The tailor wanted to use a horrible cheap scratchy lining but I wanted something softer - which of course cost 3 times more but I went with it. On turning the garments inside out I realised that he had not used the quality we had discussed. Of course he said he had and his ears were closed - a typical arrogant indian man who thinks women are beneath him. I will write to the Lonely Planet about him as he was recommended by them but with an attitude like that he doesn't deserve the business.
Already 45 minutes behing schedule.
Next stop - the shoe shop to get shoes for Katie and myself, but I couldn't find the shop - because it was CLOSED - its Monday don't you know!
Doesn't matter I can find a pharmacy instead and get more s*** blockers - 'we dont sell loperamide (fancy name for s*** blockers) or rehydration salts' - what kind of a pharmacy is that!
Rush to get to the dentist for my 4am appt - 6 veneers and 3 crowns - I was not looking forward. Get there late at 4.07pm, at 4.15 still waiting, at 4.20 still waiting, 4.25 still waiting, 4.30 sit myself in the chair without being asked to come in and wait for the doc to get off the phone.
Three other mid appointments later (they only wanted to see my doc not the other doc that was available) and I was finished at 7.45pm.
My first day on my own - what a mission - it can only get better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
