We landed in southern Kerala and after the refinement of Pondi, the beach resort of Kovolam hit us both hard!
Thomas Cook had beaten us to it.
The Sagara beach resort was being renovated; a digger sat next to the pool.
The pool was full of earth dug up by the digger.
The term "beach resort" is used very liberally.
We were given the honeymoon suite on the top floor of the new building (due to the construction in the old) with silk bed sheet, chez long and a terrific view of the bay.
But once we got down there - via the labyrinth of back ally's it became clear the digger had been very busy; mounds of black sand sat along half the beach front as extension work to the walkway before the monsoon hit well underway - The remaining third of the beach was black sandy dirt on which the odd sun lounger and umbrella occupied by a lucky holidaymaker sat.
We had been in town less than a couple of hours and Sheena was showing signs of irritation and this time it was not coming from her bowels!
It was hot and we were wilting and we missed me mam.
…..so we left.
