You'll never guess what I did today......go on have a guess......I Eve Samantha Watson went white water rafting with a group of nutty midwives!
Not only did i go white water rafting, but i went white water rafting on a GRADE 5 section of river. ( grade 1 = a puddle grade 6 = not open to public commercial sector.) Not only did i go white water rafting, but i went down the largest waterfall in New Zealand that is rafted by commercial rafts- 21ft (7metres!)- Tutea Falls on the Kaituna River!!!
There were six of us midwives from Rotorua hospital; Mandy, Kath, Wendy, Maria, Kay and myself, the girls helped to prise me into my wetsuit before having our safety instruction and signing the disclaimer form- always reassuring. Now some how i ended up at the front, everyone knows the front is just the BEST place to be when careering down a wonderfully active river, this became quite evident when we launched off the big fall, under the water flinging myself and Mandy (also at the front) out of the raft and into the water - all good though the instructor hauled us back in so that we could carry on the rest of the rapids.
I am now sitting a little soggy and a little achy in the safety of our living room. I had a fantastic, if a bit scary a trip- the most frightening thing is that i would probably do it again....no, the most frightening thing is that the madwives were planning the next daredevil pursuit before we even had our wet suits off. Action photos should appear soon as we purchased a photo disc of our action between us.
Take care. Eve xxx
