Next day and we both felt like crap! We had to get up out and move on! After much talk of whether it was possible to do a boat trip from Yangshao, our next stop, instead of paying the 400 yuan trip price from Guilin, we decided to just wing it. We went to the train station first and purchased our train tickets to Xi'an (27hrs on a train) for about 370yuan each for a hard sleeper. Then to the bus station where we got 20yuan bus tickets for the two hour trip down to Yangshao.
The bus was typical, terrible driving on poor roads, but all good in the end when we pulled into tourist haven Yangshao.
We'd looked in the rough guide book and they suggested a place called the Showbiz Inn. Terrible name as it said but it was supposed to be good, cheap, clean, and had a rooftop bar. Sold!
We stopped for lunch and to get a map from the tourist office next door, and found our way through the streets to the back alley where the Showbiz was. We got a private room again for one night which was lovely and cost 900yuan and looked through potential tours.
Down in reception we couldn't do the cormorant fishing as it was too rainy and foggy, but did book the yangshao to langdi boat trip for the next day along what was supposed to be the nicest stretch of the Li river.
It was gettin on and we were tired from drinking the previous day, so we got ourselves a coffee and went up to the rooftop bar which was absolutely stunning!
A small bar with a pool table, seating around the outside, a toilet and some bar stools it looked out with an uninterrupted view of the Li river, the stunning carst hills in the distance and all the other rooftops of the town (some with a terrace themselves, clearly big business in yangshao.
We went to do laundry where this cocky mid 40's scot called Steve was doing his laundry, he was wrapped in a towel just walking about the hostel. He offered to put ours in after which we accepted and we went for a walk around.
Yangshao is a funny place, and at night west street. Ones alive with bar after bar after restaurant after bar both on the main strip and also down the winding side streets. It was actually feeling quite nice to be somewhere lively, and we mooched about a bit before heading home to get an early night. We stopped to get some doughnuts and pastries to snack on and got in.
We tried to watch my Bridesmaids DVD on the hostel player but it wouldn't work as I got it from Thailand. We started to watch Just Go With It, with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston but after 30 minutes it was just too painful, so we watched something else instead. Tired after the movie, we went to bed.
