The train pulled into the station at about 9am, and ignoring the touts, me and English guy made our way into town on foot. It was a rainy old day and all we had was the map in his lonely planet guide.
I had cancelled my hostel, but as I hadn't been in contact with Jenny who I was to meet here for a few days, I thought going there would be a safe bet! As it turned out I completely walked past my place and ended up at the backpacker hostel instead, about a mile further down the road!
It was starting to rain quite hard so I went in with English guy, and took a seat to eat breakfast which was nice. He asked if I wanted to share a room which I declined and said I would make my way back.
I trudged back down the road and after pointing out where I needed to go to a few locals (thank god I had it written in chinese) I found the hostel which was lovely! I checked in to a private room for 100yuan and checked my emails, still nothing from Jen!
I decided to go out for a walk through town, past the sun and moon pagodas in the lake, and down across the river, squinting through the trees so I could see elephant trunk hill instead of paying the hefty admittance price. I met a tour guide called Colin who tried to sell me some tours and offered to buy me tea, which I declined in favour of heading back to the hostel.
Thankfully I did, as Jenny had emailed me and was on the way. Yaaaay! I settled in with a beer and it was fantastic when she walked through the door, I'd a little odd, we were in china ffs!!
We shared a room and then started drinking. That was pretty much the rest of the day. Bars, beers and cocktails but it was a great night and ace to catch up, jen a bit slow at first as she'd not had a conversation for about 4 days! We went to a restaurant or two for drinks, then found an Irish bar (of course) to settle into.
After lots of drinks (Jen was on a mission) we headed back to the hostel and Jen went over the road to get some KFC) we ate and passed out, happy to be together!
