Dave’s Travel Blog
This morning, at breakfast, I met the owner of the B&B we were staying in. I was telling him the circumstances of why we visited Port Elizabeth. I told him how my dad had come to move to South Africa after WW2 and that he had spent time in India before being sent back to England. The owner replied that his dad had also been in the RAF and had also spent a year in India. His dad was in 426 Squadron Bomber Command while my dad was in 89 night fighter squadron. Like my dad, his dad had moved to South Africa after the war. Amazing coincidence! Jean and I found the obelisk which was in the picture of my mother and me when I was a baby. Then, we went searching for the house we lived in which turned into a bit of a disaster as the road names had all changed. So, we decided to leave Port Elizabeth and drive to Addo Elephant Park. After registering, we went for a game drive and no more than a kilometer into the park, Jean spotted an elephant. We saw numerous warthogs, zebras, eland and red hartebeest. When it got to be time to get the keys to our park chalet, we drove back to the campground. We decided to register for a sundown game drive and then went to our chalet. It is a very quaint comfortable building. At 5:00pm, we went on our sundown game drive. The lady sitting next to Jean introduced herself as Jeanne and said she was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She did so because the lady behind Jean who was from South Africa, had asked if Jean would mind telling her how to pronounce Saskatoon, Saskatchewan! The game drive was quite successful as we saw a leopard tortoise and a lion and a large number of elephants. We had a young male walk right beside our vehicle. Very exciting. After the game drive, we went for dinner and then back to the chalet. In the morning we will do a game drive and then begin the trip through the Karoo to Graff Reinet.

Alvina/Chuck Really enjoying reading your blog and reliving our times spent in many of the places you are seeing. Just stay in the moment and enjoy.
Joanne Leatherdale I've been catching up on the trip blog after my stay in Minnesota. The game drives sound wonderful. Truly the thrill of a lifetime! that is how I felt when I think back to the trip Doug and I had in 2006. The leaves on your maple tree are beautiful and all is well here at home.
dg_wood Chuck and Ajvina, it is certainly living up to our expectations. Having a really great time!
