Dave’s Travel Blog
Today was very special for me because I am back in the town I spent some of my early youth in when we lived in South Africa. It was a very strange feeling for me-I suppose one of nostalgia. Of course it has changed completely from when I lived here with the exception of St. Peter's Anglican Church which still looks exactly as it did so many years ago. I talked to some people in the church and of course the people I remember are long since passed on. The last Price-Jones passed away from cancer 15 years ago and Captain and Mrs Cowlie are long since gone (this last part for my dad). We walked about town, a not so easy thing to do as it is all on a very steep hill. We went to the Beacon Island Hotel which, when I was here, was a wooden building but is now a huge concrete building. We watched fishermen fishing off the rocks, something my dad and I used to do. We went to buy some mementos and the shopkeeper told us she was from Prince Edward Island! In the afternoon, we went to a bird sanctuary and to a cheetah park, even taking a cheetah for a walk. We stayed there quite late talking to a couple from a Cape Town and the owner of the cheetah park. Then we came back to our B&B. Both of us have terrible colds so will probably get an early night.

Colleen C-R Love the photos and text, and especially the Church; it's really lovely stone structure. Apologies, but this is the first blog I've found time to read, so I assume I have catching up to do. PS. Tony's coming home on Thursday!
dg_wood Great news about Tony, Colleen. We hope his convalescence goes well! Glad you like the blog.
Colleen Thanks! We're both very thankful for his progress so far and I'm sure it will improve with his return to home. It's midnight and I'm just tumbling into bed, so commentary is brief. I look forward to reading more posts and seeing more photos. Hugs to you both! 'Night!
Dale S. Johnston Wow I think I am going to get through--this is the first blog I rec'd from you Dave--I was so worried I checked to see if somebody else has been receiving ithem-and Lorraine Ellens responded so she has been cutting and pasting and sending them to me!!! Couldn't respond to you thoufh--they wouldn't let me--wrong password--haven't a clue what it is. Enjoying your blog very much--wish I was there--felt badly for Howard when you talked about flowers--that is why he wanted to go to SA. Jean your Mother is great--have been visiting her--and coincidentally went to see her again today--we had a pretty good chat--she was as usual happy to see me. David directed the choir this evening--I couldn't tear myself away from the telly last Monday--ELECTION--and it was quite exciting. I want to see a picture of Jean and you Dave!

The weather has been unusually kind to us for fall and lots of bright sunny days to "get 'er done" outside!! Hi to Jean!! Please tell her we're singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah for this Sunday's service with David IZ. All the best!! Hugs, Laurie and Patrick
