Dave’s Travel Blog
After a very hearty breakfast at our B&B in Swellendam, we took a drive around town to see some sights and then set off for Plettenberg Bay. We drove through some very picturesque countryside. In George, we wanted to find the road to the seven passes which was built by Thomas Bain in 1867. After 3 tries trying to find it, we gave up and headed down a road to get back onto the N2 and discovered that we had inadvertently gotten into the seven passes road! It was a very windy narrow road with some oncoming traffic that I am sure fancied themselves on a race track. Almost got hit by a Volkswagen bus of all things. Not sure how the guy got it up to that speed! We finally got off the road at Wilderness and drove through Knysna and on to Plettenberg Bay. We arrived at our B&B here in Plett at about 3pm. We are staying at Galini Homestay which is really quite spectacular. The roof top is a huge patio that looks out over Plett. I will take some pics tomorrow. We spent a couple of hours chatting with our hostess and then went for dinner at a restaurant called The Fat Fish. Incredible food!! I was talking to our waitress and discovered she was from New Zealand. I asked her where she had lived there. She replied Hawkes Bay. I told her my favorite place in New Zealand was a place near Hawkes Bay-a place called Waimarama. She seemed totally shocked and said "oh my God, never would have thought I would hear anyone in SA say that name. That is where I am from!" Small world!!
