Up at 5:15am and had toast and coffee and then set out on our game drive for the day. We hadn't gone too far when encountered 2 beautiful owls in a tree. Further up the road we saw another owl. Another kilometre up the road and we saw 2 cape foxes. After another kilometre, we finally found meerkats!! These were absolutely fascinating- such busy creatures! Never realized that when they stand up on 2 legs, they also use their tails for support. We didn't encounter any big cats today but did see 2 Kudu which apparently was very unusual as one does not usually see them as far south as we were. We encountered herds of gemsboks, blue wildebeests, springboks, and several species of birds including secretary birds, southern pale chanting goshawks, white backed vultures, and various Eagles. We are just sitting waiting for dinner and 2 mongoose have showed up.
