Last day in Sydney and I spent it faffing about - no change there for me!
I had my packing to do, washing to do, and all that sort of palaver so I faffed about in the morning doing those kinds of things.
Then I headed into the City in the afternoon for a last look at the Opera House and the Bridge. I also went on the little red train that goes around the Botanical Gardens! It was such a cute little train, only cost $5 for the ride (student concession, sweeeet), and only took about 30 minutes, so I thought I may as well.
It turned out to be quite a nice little ride too, even though I did feel like a big kid - oh, no change there again!
Found out a bit about the resident bats there - they're called grey headed flying foxes - or fruit bats. They're the largest of the bat family, and can live to about 15 years of age.
Also found out about some of the trees in the gardens, as I'd found a funny sign in the gardens when I went there the other day. There was a fenced off tree and the sign said 'For your safety, please remain outside fence. This tree may drop branches without warning.' I would have been really scared if the tree did warn me before it dropped some of it's branches. Imagine, a tree saying 'Watch out below, I'm dropping one of my branches!!' Would give you the fright of your life!
Anyhow, I found out today that the trees are pretty old and because they're a certain type of tree (I forget which, sorry) their branches are hollow. The older they get, the more unstable they get and so the branches can just drop off as they get too frail. Ahhh, now I know! The $5 train ride was worth it for that alone :D
Took my last ferry ride back to Rose Bay, and had a nice baked potato dinner with Margaret! :D
Also found out, through reading my little Tokyo guidebook (thanks Steve!) that the week I'm going is going to be the most difficult week to travel! It's called Golden Week and it takes place from the 29th of April to the 5th of May and I'm going to be there smack bang in the middle. It has 3 or 4 holidays during that time, and most people leave the city as it can be a nightmare to get around. I had a look on the internet about what it was all about and a few sites basically confirmed that it wasn't the best time to be there. Bummer. I guess I can't do anything about it, and at least my hotel is all booked up, so I guess I'll just have to see what it's like when I get there!
