Wow! We had a couple of nights booked in Olmedo, just outside Valladolid, which had planned to have some quiet relax time. There is quite a large spa here as the town is built on huge natural springs, which is amazing considering the desert-like landscape strecthing for hundreds of miles in every direction. We've had a few treatments as well as enjoying time by the pool.
It was here where we had another great highlight and one of our most cultural experiences yet. We walked the 10 minutes into town and soon worked out that is was Fiesta time. Over some tapas for dinner we got talking to the waiter, in the very broken English we are now used to, that there was a running with the bulls tonight so we thought we couldn't miss this! It didn't get going until around 11.30pm but it was worth the wait. They had barriers set up with some crazy people standing inside and us sane folk watching from the outside. Then we heard a lot of comotion from around the corner and those standing inside the barrior started sprinting towards us. Very exciting stuff! There were 4 in total, each one bigger than the last.
We then filed into the small bullring where there was a live brass band and everyone singing and dancing. It seemed like a lot of teenagers had just graduated from something. The next hour was filled with certified nutjobs running in front of the huge beast. We weren't sure what was going to happen next but it seemed to be dragging on a bit so we left.
Off to the northern coast of Spain tomorrow. Our last European destination :(
