Well, an opportunity presented itself to spend New year's eve and new year's day in Milan, as guests of the hotel we stayed in last time.
I ran some research to make sure there's something to do in Milan on new year's day, and since there isn't, i checked a possibility to travel towards the lakes.
It'd be cold, but at least we can experience the famous countdown near the Duomo.
