2th October La Paz
Arrived in La Paz in the afternoon and took in the sights! Wow what a sight it is!! It isn´t too bad but I think Cuzco spoilt us. It is just very busy, loud, full of poverty and not the prettiest so just spent one night here and then the next day boarded an early bus back to Peru to a place called Copacabana which is a town on Lake Titicaca.
Unexpectedly the bus journey also involved a quick boat trip which was fun out in the open while it was hailing - oh well! I felt pretty rough for the next couple of hours as we were going up and down on switchbacks so had to make a mad dash to our hotel in Copacabana - sorry to be graphic! - I made it though! Rich popped out that evening to get some supplies and we just stayed in and let my stomach settle!
Tues 28 Oct
Rather than get a boat we decided to spend the day relaxing on the beach. The views were beautiful when you looked out to the lake but as with alot of South America that we have seen they don´t seem to have the money to build pretty buildings and the litter everywhere is pretty bad but looking out to the lake was great!
Wed 29th Oct - Boat trip
Stomach back on track we boarded a rickety old boat to Isla Del sol. It was a beautiful morning and when we arrived at the island we went on a 3 hour hike with beautiful views of the lake and lots of peace and quiet (again something v rare in any S American town or village it would seem!). Our ride back was fun - the weather really turned and we were literally battered with hailstones! Some people tried to fend them off by putting up their umbrellas up inside the boat - what a luxurious ride!
Thurs 30 Oct
Caught bus back to Peru to place called Puno, another town on the Lake. On 31 went on another boat trip and visted some floating islands. They are literally made by the people out of reeds - fascinating to see their houses etc which are all made from the reeds but did feel like they had made them almost for us to visit! The president of the island gave us a talk about the life etc and then the women set up all their handicrafts for us to buy! Took a tiny boat made of reeds across to another island and some local children and sang Twinkle Twinkle little star to us all the way in a variety of dfferent languages - v odd!
Arrived at the island of Tequila and had a delicious trout lunch in a restaurant high up on the mountain overlooking the lake. Returned by boat to Puno for the evening and joined the hundreds of other people in the town who were out for Halloween! Yet again enjoyed another tasty meal!
Sat 1st Oct - Another early start and bus ride!
Bus and boat back to lovely La Paz!
Today 2nd Oct - a lovely lie in!
First day for what seems like ages that we haven´t had to be up before 6 for a boat, bus or plane! Spent day chilling out, Rich made sure we booked into a fairly decent hostel with cable so he could catch the Grand Prix and I have enjoyed sleeping and popping out to a lovely cafe for some delicious chocolate cake!
Tomorrow morning we will be up early again to get our 10 am flight from La Paz to Santiago. We will probably spend a few days in a nearby resort on the beach maybe or perhaps visit some wineries (it´s such a hard life!) and then on Saturday we begin our 3 week tour through Patagonia ending in the town of Ushuiaia which is the furthest South in the world - brrrr!
Love to you all - keep the emails and blogs coming - want a half term update from lots of you!
