Taronga Zoo, ( Taronga is an aboriginal word meaning beautiful ) , in the suburb of Mosman looking over Sydney harbour. Opened on 7 th October 1916, and divided into eight zoogeographic regions over 52 acre and is home to over 4,000 animals of 340 species. The entrance starts on top of the hill then the exhibits run all the way down to the bottom, oh yes it is tuff on the old legs, we went straight to the gorilla Forrest home to 4 western lowland gorilla's one alpha male named Kibali (D.O.B) 2002, he came to Taronga from France in 2012 to eventually assume the role of silverback in taronga's new gorilla family, then there is 3 females, Frala (D.O.B.1981), Mbeli (D.O.B. 2004) and Johari (D.O.B. 2001), what a wonderful group of gorillas they are, 3 or 4 had younger baby's took loads of photos that I am pleased with I could have stayed right there all day. The chimpanzee community is home to a multi-male, multi-female troop of 19 chimps of various ages and currently led by alpha male Lubutu who is 22yrs old. They had a amazing enclosure which was out of this world and they were so active must be one of the best zoos I have ever been to. The giraffes had the best view looking across to the harbour and city, the views were simply amazing, I can understand why I have seen so many photos of Sydney harbour as you can't help but take them from every view point. Betty was sorry we missed out at the koala photo spot as they closed early for photos. We saw them but not up close. There are many bush turkeys roaming free where ever we go Saxon loves to chase them he has no fear at all. Also many lizards are scurrying around here. it was a life saver to get to the bottom of the zoo and take the cable car back up to the top. We had a full on day today we are all feeling very tied. One of the best. Xxxxxxxx
