This morning the group went for a stroll down the Bund to see it in daylight after which we headed to the Shanghai Museum where we saw ancient Jade, clothing, caligraphy, paintings, pottery and Buddha's - I lost Jess in the pottery room so continued to look around by myself. When I left to meet the group at the designated time and place I couldn't see anyone so after a while I decided to make my own way back to our hotel as we had an overnight train to catch at 2pm. I took a different subway to the one we used coming and did not know how to get back! Luckily though I could see the sky line of the Bund so I knew if I followed that I would eventually get back to our hotel. I tried not to panic and confidently walked the back streets like I lived here and before long came to the road of our hotel. I'm usually good at navigating my way around cities. When I got back the group had not returned and I knew they would be looking for me with Jess in a panic! The hotel would not let me use their phone as I wanted to call a non Shanghai number so all I could do was wait. Eventually they came back and I was right - Jess had been mad with worry. We grabbed our things and made our way to the station for our 17 hour train journey!
I like Shanghai - it's very westernised and apart from the obvious language barrier it would be quite easy to live here.
Once on the train I made my way to the top bunk, settled in for the long journey and started to read. There was an old Chinese guy blasting music then on came Justin Bieber - they love Justin Bieber here. Was so funny - he must have been about 60.
Fortunately I had only used a squat toilet once in India on the train as I didn't need to go whilst we were out and about and the hotels have western toilets. On this train to Luoyang I went alot! My thighs sure did get a workout!
