Hey everyone! Shawn and I finally made it to the islands, after a VERY long day of traveling yesterday - of course, traveling the economical way is not the most convenient, however we did fly half way across the ocean for $300 each way so I can't really complain! It was so crazy walking into my parents' home, as it always is, considering they are both artists and the walls are covered head to toe with paintings. But it is so nostalgic as I walk around and see furniture and other little knickknacks that I've grown up with and the last time I have been to visit my parents was in Christmas of 2003 (holy cow, has it been that long?!) The first thing I did was pull out the old photo albums and I laughed to read about our crazy adventures in Toronto, Florida, New Mexico, California (my mom has been writing 'Ko adventure journals' for as long as I can remember). Then Shawn and I collapsed to bed after 11pm their time (which is 3am back home!) but being four hours behind is great because we can wake up super early at 7 and 8am and still feel like we slept in!
As Shawn mentions in his blog, we went up a huge volcano today, way above the clouds, and you certainly need a jacket up there as it gets pretty cold when you're 10,000 feet up! It is pretty crazy to see the mountains here - they are majestic compared to our tiny little Rockies in Canada. It took us a good hour or so just to drive to the summit. We relaxed at a local beach for the afternoon - can't go out swimming too late or you become shark bait! :-) And we're thinking about heading out to a bar tonight IF we can stay awake! Stay tuned for some new photos (to be added tomorrow).
