So, one month and two countries later I'm back writing on my blog page! I've been up to sooo much since I last wrote in Cambodia. I've been to Thailand: Bangkok, Krabi, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Samui, Ko Phangnan, Ko Tao, and am now in Malaysia on an island called Langkawi. Heading further though Malaysia 2mrw.
Ok, so best way to do this is to wirte down some of my highlights of the past month.
Elephant trekking, snorkling in the clearest and most reef filled waters I've ever been in, spending xmas day going round to different islands around Ko Phi Phi, meeting a surviver of the tsunami in Ko Phi Phi and hearing about his ordeal....,seeing an elephant walking down the street (with his owner!) in Bangkok, spending new years eve on a beach filled with fireworks!! Swimming in the clearest waters ever in thailand! Sleeping on the thinest and smallest matress's ever on a night ferry from Ko Tao island to mainland Thailand. Seeing the biggest Buddha statue-all gold and massive, eating Thai Green Curry and Pad Thai pretty much everyday in Thailand and it costing like one pound! Climbing through waterfalls in Ko Samui, going on a longtail boat to several islands with our own personal Thai guide, relaxing on the beaches in Thailand. Eating Malaysian food in Langkawi, staying in a beach hut right in front of the sea, seeing the best sunsets ever where the sky goes an amazing shade of pink..........oh there's just so much!
Ok so, Bangkok was so cool! I loved the main hanging out street which is called Khao San Road. I could have spent all my time just on that street! It had super eatiers-cool resturants but even cooler street food. Great street stalls and an awesome night market! Luckily my friend came out to meet me in Thailand so I bought a load of stuff and have sent it back home with her!
It was quite a shock coming to thailand after Cambodia. Thailand is obviously much more 'touristy' and more geared towards western tourists. They also have Tesco's and boot's in Thailand, as well as the usual stuff like McDonalds, Burger King, Subway etc. Cambodia on the other hand had nothing like that at all. There was one KFC in the whole of Cambodia and that was in the city centre of the capital-Phenom Penh. Such a contrast! So coming into Bangkok after being in the totally none tourist Cambodia was like being home almost! Bangkok is full of tall buildings and major shopping malls. The islands on the other hand are small and full of locals running small food stalls and hostels, and beach huts. I totally fell in love with the island of Ko Phi Phi and Ko Tao. Such pretty places with the most amazing beaches and clear sea! Finally went on a long tail boat which was so cool!
It was great being in hot place for xmas and new years. New years was so fun as was on the beach surrounded by thousands of fireworks! It was weird that it was new years for me 7 hours before it was new years at home. This is the first time I've been in a different time zone for new years.
So, after three weeks of being in thailand and eating green curry and pad thai, have moved on to Langkawi in Malaysia. It's such a nice island and is again really different from Thailand. It's much quieter here than it was anywhere in Thailand and it took a few days for me to get used to so few people being here. Have spent my days sitting in the hot sun and swimming in the sea and am now ready to really discover Malasyia so am travelling onwards through Malaysia to a place called Georgetown/Penang. Then am moving on to the famous Kuala Lumpar, and then to a place called Malaka, before going to Singapore.
So it's time to get stronge again and get my big heavy backpack on...boo! It's to heavy! But there is no way I'm getting rid of any of my clothes, so I will continue to suffer on...ha ha. My backpack is pretty heavy and I really don't think I look like a natural traveller when I've got it on! ha ha, am still considering getting dreadlocks so that I can fit in better with the traveller folk! ha ha! Got some great henna done in Bangkok, best henna I've had, it lasted well but has all come off now, I also have some travelling braclets now-I'm getting closer to looking like a traveller I think.......my clothes still don't fit in with the traveller look-need some colouful pants and baggy floaty tops.....no thanks!
Right, well I'm off to enjoy my last night in Langkawi xxxx
