Hey guys!
I'm in the historical town of Melaka in Malaysia now and its really nice! Got here at about 2:00 in the afternoon yesterday after a 2hour bus journey from KL. Found a really cute hostel which is like staying in a family home really. There's only 5 rooms, a kitchen with free tea and coffe-free! I love free! ha ha. There's a tv lounge and a cute rooftop balcony with seats. The owner is really nice to. When we got here yesterday we were the only one's there! Now some more people have checked in and they are almost full, ha ha.
So got here yesterday and checked in. Then walked around for a while through Chinatown-which is like the most important thing here. It's so weird coz everywhere we're been theres a chinatown-seriously-everywhere! And it's fuuny coz it's like 'yeah yeah, we've seen that and that and better than that in reality in China'! But it's still cool. So then walked around this massive shopping complex. Malaysia really loves it shopping complex's! There are loads! They have Mcdonalds next to KFC next to burger King next to Pizza Hut! Crazy! We bought some yummy doughnuts for like 50p and headed out again. I found the gurdwara here and went and sat there for a while. It was pretty quite as the sunday morning kirtan must have finished hours ago. A really nice spacious and airy gurdwara tho. Really peaceful. Then we went down chinatown again and found out that they were doing a special Chinese New Year celebration thing in aid of raising money for Chinese eduction. All of a sudden at 6:30, the whole street changed and all these night market stalls came up with food, drinks, clothes, jewlery etc! The street was transformed! It was so cool! There was a big stage in the middle of everything and all of a sudden they had really really bad Kareoke singers come up one at a time and sing stuff like 'I will always love u', 'beautiful tonight' and other random songs! was sooooo funny! Only one out of like 7 people was actually any good, the rest just made me crack up, ha ha! Then the best thing-they did this whole Chinese dragon routine on the big stage and a lion dance to. With the big dragon held by 12 people or so. It was great!!!!
We found this great place to eat (as recommended by the Southeast Asia Lonely Planet on a shoestring guide, which i picked up for 6 pounds in Vietnam after reading Martyns-welsh guy on our tour-and realising that it was the best guide ever ! ha ha! I even raved about it so much that 3 other people on our tour group ended up buying it, haha! But it hasnet let me down so far! Found the best and cheapest eating places through it and the best hostels to), anyhows, so went to eat at this place and they do this dish which is served on a banna leaf instead of a plate and u get rice, dall, raitha, and this oniony subjy to. It was so fun! ha ha! It only cost 1.20!! Can u believe it! I'm going to get such a shock when i get to Australia and food doesnt cost a pound! ha ha! Also, all through Malaysia they do this tea called Teh Tarik, and it usually costs like 20p, but it's basically just indian tea, so I've been drinking loads of that!!! Yum yum!
So, this morning we went for a walk down our street and decied to eat dosa and roti for breakfast-yum yum! The roti is actually like plain parantha with whatever else u want in it, I usually get cheese init-I lovvvve cheese! Together they both cost 60p! How cool!!! Then we've been on this heritage walk all around the town, its a small town which is good, but the heat! soo hot again! This town was like the first port in Malaysia so its got a lot of history and different cultural influences, which make it different from the rest of Malaysia. It was taken over by the Portugese, then the Dutch, then the English, then the Dutch again, then English, (oh bless them!), then finally given back to the Malaysians. Then i went back to the gurdwara for a little sit down, and had a cup of tea there, no langar being served tho. and now I'm here on the net. We've booked cinema tickets to watch 'The Spirit' tonight....coat 1.60 a ticket!!! Awesome!!
