We tried to start the day off on the other foot today, but the heat and the carrying of the convoy of bags to the train station did not help. By the time we reached the station it looked like we had just been for a swim with our clothes on!(not the first for this trip!) We were picking up our car and signs weren't good after standing around for half an hour.
This is where our luck turned around though our car is pretty much brand new and not a bad piece of kit either.(thank you Rick!) Peugeot 308 diesel (AB would be proud) that has some Eco mode which seems to switch the engine off whenever you stop moving, it conserves fuel but can make it jolt hard if you accelerate from a standing start (I'm not sure it's a great feature, not to mention the paddle shifters that are not attached to the steering wheel! Bloody useless). The air con is not brilliant but we do have a cool moon roof.
We set off on our drive along the south of France, our first destination was to get the hell out of marseille. So we headed south east towards Toulon, the highways here are nice apart from the 6 tolls we had to pay for the day, but being allowed to travel at 130 makes up for it. Toulon was a bit less hectic than marseille and seemed a lot tidier. We didn't stop here though, we wanted to head towards Cavalaire, as this is where Shelley had lived for a while as a youngster! This place lived up to the hype it is beautiful, it has an amazing harbor and a real beach town feel to it!
We stopped here for lunch, it was nice to be out of the crowds for a while! Ps we saw one white manor Shelley, it was on the way in and it was humongous, if you stayed there we are very jealous. Actually I am jealous anyway as this town is very nice!!! Our next destination was St Tropez apparently this is where the rich and famous vacate to, this is a stunning little town on the water. It has little narrow streets, that are a little tight for driving! The houses go right down to the water which is very nice. We have seen a mass of expensive cars in this area I am not sure how they get around these streets but I guess they do!
We had booked 2 night accommodation in Eze and it was starting to get late so we headed towards our stop. Eze is amazing it is in the hills above the Mediterranean sea and the views are breathtaking, it doesn't matter how good your camera is it can't capture these views! We had dinner at the hotel restaurant overlooking the cliffs and then went and passed out it had been a big day!
