The first day I walked around the main square of the city then I went into the MAAM museum and it was really interesting - I got to see a frozen Incan mummy found at almost 7000m high. There were 3 found in total but they only have one on display at a time.It was really freaky but also really cool - totally preserved, the skin was even normal color, not gray. After the museum I walked around San Martin park before taking the cable car up the San Bernardo hill where I took a little nature walk and saw beautiful views of the city below.
Day 2 we took a tour to the town of Cachi. We saw some pretty colored mountains then went to Piedra del Molino, our highest spot of the day 3348 meters above sea level. It was full of clouds but there was a pretty church there. Then we continued down into the Cardones (type of cactus) national park where we saw thousands of cactus on flat land surrounded by gorgeous colored mountains. For lunch I tried stuffed tripe - luckily it was stretched really thin so I only tasted the meaty inside. We then visited the town of
Cachi for an hour. There we saw the church and walked up the hill to the cemetery. We had one more quick stop for a beautiful view of the hills and the road below before getting home.
Day 3 we took the bus to the town of San Lorenzo to a nature preserve - la Quebrada de San Lorenzo. The type of forest was called yungas. There was a map but at first we took an excursion to the right which wasn't on the map. There we saw some beautiful orquids and mushrooms and streams. We made our way back to the start of the actual trail and followed it w/out a problem.I read about the types of trees & plants along the way & then we ran into some cows.It was pretty funny cause we didn't quite know how to get around them, not wanting them to charge at us.Luckily we followed them until they went into their corral. It got really cold at night but we made it back to Salta and enjoyed a free empanada dinner at the hostel.
