Day 1 we just checked out the little town of el Calafate & got to listen to a group from Ecuador playing pan flute in the street! We also met a woman who weaves sheep's wool right in the store & hand embroiders shawls & blankets.
Day 2 we went to visit the famous Perito Moreno glacier, but unfortunately it rained all day! LWe did take a 1 hour boat tour though (getting pretty close to the glacier) & walked along the pasarelas (walkways) to see different views of the glacier. It was quite impressive -especially being my first glacier.Luckily it didn't rain too hard & using A. Sue's umbrella we got some good pictures & stayed semi-dry.At the restaurant at the beginning of the viewing area I saw my first outdoor hot water vending machine for people to fill up their thermos for their mate!It was quite interesting! JWe got home and of course the sun came out.
Day 3 We did a tour on this 4x4 newfangled monster truck which took us up the large hill/mini mountain behind the city.We got some great views of the town & got beat down by the wind as usual. We saw some cool looking stone/rock formations then went to see other formations on the outside of some rocks that look just like sombreros - too cool!(see the pictures)We also saw some calafate plants and got to eat some berries.
