Today we start the last leg of our vacation in South Africa --- heading into Cape Town. Other than a photo of an oryx in the West Cape album, the photos for today will appear in a new album - Cape Town.
Table Mountain stands out from about 100 km. but gets more and more dramatic as one approaches Cape Town. At about 50 km. beach towns begin to appear, many occupied by retirees and vacation homes. We arrived in Cape Town around 11:00am and began touring the Lions Head and Signal Hill areas. From there we headed to the Table Mountain Cable Car and got lucky. Two cruise ships were in town with all of the tours that entails. We must have hit the period between the morning and afternoon tours of Table Mountain because the waiting line for the Cable Car was quite short. The cable cars can take 65 people at a time and make the trip to the top in 3 to 4 minutes. The views from Table Mountain are every bit as spectacular as the tourist literature claims.
Today is hot - about 32C so we checked into our hotel at about 2:30pm and decided to take the rest of the afternoon off.
