Less sightseeing and more experiences was the tenor of the day. We headed about 40 km. west of Cape Town and started with another (as if we needed it) winetasting at a beautiful spot overlooking a large beach town (Strand) and the ocean. From there we went to a huge suburban shopping mall --- Somerset West. This mall is probably double the size of the Mayfair Mall in Victoria, but newer. All the brand name outlets are here.
After lunch Andre took us to his home in nearby Gordons Bay where his wife Amanda served us here signature lemon meringue pie (fantastic). Gordons Bay is a nice middle class retirement town with a great beach.
The feature of the day was a Cheetah refuge centre where Phyllis posed with a cheetah for a photo. The centre also raises a special Anatolian Sheep Dog, originally from Turkey. This dog associates with animals, particularly sheep and protects them with his (or her) life. The dogs are raised and given to farmers. The objective is that farmers do not need to kill predators like cheetah or leopards. The dog keeps them away from the sheep or cattle.
