What this blog entry lacks in length, it most certainly makes up for in sheer greatness. Three things happened today that made me really, really happy...
In my first class, I took a register, talked a bit and handed some photocopies out. For some reason I was short of photocopies by the time I'd been round the room. It was only then I realised that my class had a few extra members! Students from other classes have joined my class!
Some time ago, I received an e-mail from a student who said that she could solve the 'magic square' (Rubik's cube) in less than 3 minutes. I told her I could beat that. Today, she brought in two cubes and we raced in front of the class. I won. She brought great dishonour to her family. (In that class we also played Hangman and my word was 'antidisestablishmentarianism'. Just imagine how funny it was to hear them repeat that after me!)
As if my day couldn't get any better... At lunch I was bought a drink by a student. Now, this in itself is quite nice. We started talking about nothing in particular and we exchanged telephone numbers. (Sit down and prepare yourself for this next bit.) In my phone book, I now have the name... 'Super Dragon'. No, your eyes are not dreaming. 'Super Dragon'. I laughed my noodles into my nose.
In other news: I today found an underground table tennis club. It was full of old men with cigs hanging out of the corner of their mouth belting the ball at speeds you wouldn't believe. Also, I had an after-school revision class for a Cambridge ESOL exam that the students are worried about. Rightly so, too, there was some really difficult reading comprehension in it. Finally, tomorrow, I have Professor Maria (the dean) evaluating one of my lessons.
