"A towel (…) is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have" - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
f***ing hell, still 70 days left and I'm already planning what to take. Well, not really. Well...sort of. I'll get right to it.
I'm travelling alone. That means that I'll be spending a lot of time in silence, by myself. I enjoy the thought of spending a few minutes a day just thinking. But it gets old real quick. I can get annoying real easy, even to myself. So, I depend on music.
I'll be taking my iPhone 4 with me. The downside is that it has only 16Gb of space. It's a problem because it will be my main camera (for pictures and videos), and those things take up a crapload of space. The only solution is to limit the number of apps I have installed to a bare minimum. Only the necessary photo and video editing apps, a few utilities and Solitaire - can't travel without Solitaire, that would be plain retarded.
At the beginning, I have about 1.5Gb free. After eliminating a few apps and cleaning up, I'm down to 3.45Gb free.
Great. Now I just have to select the songs that will be with me for the whole journey. And I have to chose wisely - I don't want to forget that awesome album I love and I also don't want to fill the iPhone with love-dovey songs I kept exclusively for when I would play my songs in the car with the ex.
Thankfully iTunes is great in that sense. It keeps a record of how many times I've listened to certain songs. If I had the album for over 2 months and I haven't heard any of it at least twice, it won't make the cut. Some albums are great, but have that one song that I always seem to skip - those ones won't make it either.
From the 2005 songs I have, I managed to select 848 of them. Doesn't sound like much, but I'm not known for downloading much.
And regarding the real packing - the stuff I'll actually need? Well, 7 pieces of underwear (i.e. all the underwear I have), 7 pairs of socks, 3 shirts + 1 fancy-ish shirt, 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of traveller pants, 1 pair of cold/water resistant trousers, 1 pair of shorts, 1 jumper, 1 cold/water resistant jacket, towel, sleeping bag, higiene stuff, swiss knife / multi-purpose knife, chargers, sun glasses, vaporizer, one deck of cards and a canteen for water. Oh, and documents (passport, credit card, the works).
Seven paragraphs about my music, one about actual important stuff. I know where my priorities lie. Sort of.
By the end of this week I'll do a dry-run while I go to São Paulo for the New Years celebration. I guess that will help me discover what I'm missing.
f*** me, this post seems to be the first one I've demonstrated some kind of good mood. Well, recent events have made my life a bit more bearable (despite still being pissed at a certain person - one of those "Well, f*** you too" moments). Lets see how the next posts come along.
"(...) Any man that can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, ruff it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with." ~The Hitchhiker's Guide
