"What's up?" [asked Ford]. "I don't know," said Marvin, "I've never been there." - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
So I decided to take a few days off and head up to São José dos Campos, where I would do a test to see how well I can survive with as little as possible. Instead of hostels, I'd try out first staying at a friends place - I've only met her online, but it should give me a preview of how it is to stay at a strangers place.
I left home with just a few pairs of underwear, a few shirts, one pair of jeans and one pair of shorts. So far, so good. It's been quite hot (25-30 Celcius), which is quite unlike what I'll be going thru in Europe, but at least I know how heavy things are. And, man, are things heavy.
Although I only traveled with my smaller backpack, it gave me an idea of the back-pains I'll have to get used to. Sure, what weighs the most is the notebook (which I'm getting rid of in exchange for a iPad) and the wine I brought with me to thank my host - but still, even if the clothes are well wrapped up, they tend to occupy a lot of space and be quite heavy.
It's new years eve and we'll be heading down to the closest beach. It should be quite and adventure, as the beaches are quite full this time of the year (specially today). Let's see how that fans out.
My musical selection has kept me satisfied, specially during the 6-hour long drive from Curitiba to São Paulo, and another 1:30h from there to SJC. So I guess thats less of a worry.
I just managed to keep myself entertained by drawing on my moleskin. Apart from that, there wasn't much to do on the bus as beside me a 13 year-old boy was just listening to his music and reading a book. I also tried to catch up on my eBooks, but it wasn't taking my mind off the long trip. At least it seemed to pass by quite quickly.
Well, let's see if I can get some shut-eye on the bus down to the beach as I'm quite knackered. Happy new year, I guess.
