Woke up to our last full day in lovely Paris. Off to explore more of our surroundings around our hotel. We are just off the Place de Republique. The other day there was some sort of demonstration. In anticipation of trouble there were at least 5 police riot vans and a cluster of riot police all waiting at the corner. Took a taxi to Galleries Lafayette - wow. Beautiful building and so much merchandise. Saw some of the same brands that I buy at home for a fraction of the price. Other items were priced at the tourist premium, as you would expect. Bought a gift for our favourite niece Yaz. We made our way slowly up to the 6th floor in the main building. What a great place to have lunch, terrific view of the Eiffel Tower, the Opera House and other sights of Paris. Great choice of food or boisson (drinks). Even though we were very tired and all shopped out, we made our way to the "must see" food hall. Wow, lots of lovely food - the macaroons, the truffles, the cheeses, etc. Bought some macaroons and truffles - delish. Long walk back to the hotel.
Had dinner at a place just across the road from the hotel, a bit of a dive. Gave the kids bottles of lemonade that the tops had previously been opened and the bottles were dirty. Had dessert at a patisserie just up the road and bought a box of macaroons to have tomorrow.

Lily Hi Miss Tania, Have finally got a chance to read about your european adventure. what a great website. Sounds like you are having an amazing time - shame about the rude waiters - but hey you are in PARIS. I think the amazing buildings, shops etc make up for it. I remember going to Galleries LaFayette and how beautiful the building was - I didn't buy anything though - unfortunately. I can't believe you tried snails. Ah, ah, I don't think I can be as brave. I am so jealous you are tasting all the wonderful food delights of paris - lucky you are doing all that walking!! Thats why the french women look so georguos and slim - they eat lovely food but they walk everywhere. I think I can do that! i hope your puffy eye has settled down - nothing but a little drama to make your trip interesting. How are the girls coping with all this wonderful exposure to travel in a foreign country? Lucky things - look forward to your next instalment. Safe and happy travels
mary bryan hi everyone, just popping by to say hello to you all - and thanks for the running update! am getting a real 'flavour' from your entries, and love it that you are so INTREPID!! (talk about cool heads prevailing when things don't always go according to plan..) so: snails, truffles, macaroons - and gallic arrogance - whateve paris has on offer, you're up for the works, i'd say! and so much walking! it's an excellent way of seeing it all at close range - and of maintaining excellent fitness! everything ok back here. julia gillard and the govt in BIG trouble over the high court's decision that the 'malaysian solution' to the arrival of refugees is not legal. an opportunity for a humane approach (ie, onshore processing?) not likely!! evenings drawing out. weather mild and spring like. and the footy finals season starts this weekend. and that's about it form hawthorn east. the dogs are still ondering where you afre, alex and celeste - although i'm trying to keep them updated. glad you're drinking it all in - and we look forward to the next exciting instalment! love to you all, mary xxx
