Day 127
Another early start of 6 in the morning to meet a guy called Rocky who was taking us down to Ballina, the place where a kid was killed by a shark a couple of months ago. But we were going whale watching so we stayed dry, kind of. We'd only just set off on the boat and we saw dolphins! It was really good because there were only 7 of us on the boat. We'd been going for 5 minutes when we saw our first pod of whales. It was amazing to see them so close and all the detail on their fins and tails. We followed that pod for a while and then found a few others. Most of the whales weren't as active as we had seen them at Cape Byron but we saw one completely jump out of the water really close to us! When the tour finished, we were making our way back and we saw a whale on it's side flapping it's fin on the water. It was with a few other whales and they were really active. Then we noticed there was a pod of dolphins and they were playing together. It was pretty cool.
We'd been told the two places to go out in Byron are the Beach hotel and Cheeky Monkey's. So we went to the beach hotel first for a few drinks and watched some live bands. Then we walked to cheeky monkey's and it was freeeeezing!! We ended up playing connect four because the songs were so crap and we just couldn't get into it. Then the 'Coyote Girls' came out and they were so bad! So we left and went to the 23hour pie shop, no I don't know what they do in that 1hour whilst they are closed!
