Got up early for our salt flats tour, had some breakfast and met a lovely olde couple from Newcastle who were traveling for 10 months in their retirement, Norma and Chris. They'd been doing some house sitting in Mexico for 5 months and were pretty interesting. We the. Got sorted into our jeeps and we were with a couple called Emily and Nigel, from London. Our cook was called Kata and the guide was freddy. We drove a lot the first day seeing all the crazy beautiful mountainous scenery and stopped a few time to look at canyons and various abandoned towns. We stopped for some lunch which was in the back of the car warm and delish, and then Carried on driving. Eventually we got to a blockade in the road where the locals were striking and not letting anyone in the park as the government were giving them the money they were promised. But luckily our guides were from the villages in the park and managed to talk our way in, it was all a little hairy for a moment though. Turns out that we see the only 4 jeeps in the whole entire park as no one else had been allowed in. We eventually got to the hostel, run by Freddies family and kata served us tea and biscuits and we taught Emily and Nigel how to play yanif. Some of freddies little brithers and sisters were there who we played with for a while, we tried to teach tehm cards but the language barrier was to mich so instead made card towers. It was pretty amusing and they we terrors bloong each others down. We then had a lovely dinner made by Kata and eventually went to bed.
