The jungle was awesome. We got up and headed to the tour office where we had breakfast at a French patisserie next door and then met with our group, Will the New Zealander from the hospital, Carlet another dutchie, Marcus a sweede and 3 Irish, Sarah, Sean and David (who looked like Karl pilkington.) Our guide was a man called Taz . We set of in a 3 hour jeep ride to the jungle in the super heat and proceeded to get covered in dust. My white top is now defiantly not white. We stopped for lunch and then headed to the boats which were long canoe type things with seats and a motor. The trip was 3 hours down river and on the way we saw trillions of animals, turtles, alligators, black cayman, capabara (like giant Guina pigs) and loads more birds and other things. We also saw some of the famous pink river dolphin and stopped to swim in the water with them. At this point Marcus was bitten by a piraña! It was crazy. Also right next to where we were swimming there were a load of alligators....safe. We got to our lodge which was pretty simple but with a load of hammocks and had a little break and snack and then headed to a bar to watch the sunset and it was one of the only places that did COLD drinks. I had a coke which never happens. But it was cold and delish. The sunset was beautiful aswell and then we went back for dinner. After dinner (jam packed day) we headed out again to see the caymans eyes in the dark along the river, it was ace. And the stars were some of the best I've seen ever, just so many of them, it was really serene when we had the engine turned off as it was so quiet except for all the jungle noises. We got back and played cards until the electric turned off at 10pm and we to bed.
The next day we got up to leave At 5am as Taz had said we could go and see some monkeys if we wanted, just before though we went to watch the sunrise across the flat planes of the pampas which was just so beautiful aswell. Then the monkey search came and luckily we found some! Squirrel monkeys, which were tiny and yellow and we saw some of the massive howler monkeys all before breakfast. After breakfast it was time for some anaconda hunting so we set off on the boat for about 15mins and then Went on a walk through the stifling heat, luckily there was a wind so it was quite as bad but I don't think I've been so sweaty in my life as I was in the pampas! Eugh. We got to the swamp area all in our Wellies and went searching. It wasn't the most pleasant if experiences as it was super hot and we were sticking our feet into squelchy smelly mud looking for snakes. After a couple hours I boiled and just sat under a tree with a lot of others but eventually Taz found a baby anoconda! Tick! Another animal to add to the list. We eventually headed back to the lodge for a siesta and lunch before the afternoons piraña fishing. Piraña fishing consisted of lines like you have for crabbing and some meat, they were crafty little b*****s and kept eating the bait and not getting on the hooks but eventually Sarah caught a tiny one! We then got onto a bit of a roll and all in all caught about 15 on our boat. It was hilarious as we had to kill them if we wanted to eat them and the way Taz was killing the fish was biting through their brains. We all just did a bit of an inbetweeners and tried hitting them with things. It was really fun and we caught 3 different types, yellow, white and red pirañas. A good haul all in all. And we got a barracuda. Then Taz had to go about gutting them, and i had a go. We then headed to another bar place that did cold drinks and spent the rest of the day there. When we got back the cooks fried up our pirañas for dinner and we had them along with over things. They were delish! Caught, killed, gutted and ate. Winner! After dinner more cards were played and then bed again ready for the final day in the jungle.
This morning we first went out on the boats again in search of monkeys and we found them! We got to feed them some bananas and there were trillions, even a baby one! Then we went in search of more dolphins to swim with and lo and behold we found some, I say swim with it was more like swim in the same water the dolphins were in but it was cool none the less. We then went back had lunch and left on the boats and then a jeep back to rurrenabaque. It was soooooooo hot and sweaty. Gross. We booked back into the £1.50 a night hostel with the rest of the Irish and then went for a drink with the group and dinner which was really nice. Went to find another bar and discovered a disco, but sadly another Inbetweeners moment where no one else was in there, it was also incredably sweaty. Found another bar and then eventually returned for a nights sleep.
